A Loving God

Many think that the Christian life is austere and that we have a God who is only looking for reasons to punish us or point his finger at us for all our sins. They imagine an old man sitting on his throne, with cold eyes, a cold expression and a smirk, busy watching our every move.

However, Our God is quite the opposite. It is through his Word that we see how much he loves us, his creatures, his children.

I invite you to read this passage.

Then neither do I condemn you,” - “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

When we read these verses, we see that at no time did Jesus make a negative judgment on the adulterous woman. Of course, adultery is a sin, but he said to her, “I do not condemn you either; go and sin no more.”

Wow, he did not condemn her. Our God does not want to condemn us, he wants us to repent and change our lives, to reject sin for our own good.

So those who think that they are too “dirty” to dare to look up to God, this passage shows you that he opens his arms to all of us and we just have to reach out to him and let him act in our lives. We will not have to fight alone but with his spirit and his word to guide and support us.

The Bible is full of passages that testify of the Love of God. Let's not close our hearts, let's not get stuck in our human reasoning.

If we look for him, he lets himself be found. And what better place to meet him, if not in his Word, the Bible.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
